Looking to veg out on the couch? Then look to these movies for a stoner good time.
The Big Lebowski
An oft-quoted stoner flick featuring a case of mistaken identity. Starring Jeff Bridges as ‘The Dude’, this Coen Brothers production features memorable one-liners and hallucination scenes. It’s a trip worth taking.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Starring Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey, this love story delves into the pain of love and how to heal (or how NOT to heal depending on how you look at things). The visuals are bright which can be fun if you’re stoned but the real appeal is the creative escapism that will have you questioning what is and isn’t real.
This Christopher Nolan film is the ultimate in heist and fantasy. According to critics, there are tons of plot holes in an illogical storyline. It’s the perfect movie to watch for the critical stoner.
“I don’t do drugs, though. Just weed.”
This hilarious stoner comedy features Dave Chappelle, Jim Bruer, and Guillermo Diaz. The storyline follows three idiotic friends as they try to raise money by selling weed. It’s not much of a thinker but stands alone as a stoner classic.
Visually appealing and spiritually enlightening. This sci-fi fantasy has something for everyone — love, action, dystopia, and Keanu Reeves. It’s an ideal flick to put on that would likely please every stoner on the couch. More attentive viewers will follow the complex storyline while those vegging out will enjoy the random bursts of action.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
An oldie, but a goodie. This late ‘80s film is both live-action and animated. While the cartoon and fantasy aspect may appeal to children, the heavy adult situations make it ideal for adults only. The sultry characters and the eye-popping cartoons mixed in with live sets and actors make this a creative, visual experience.
Donnie Darko is a dark movie, it even has “dark” in the title. This creepy flick featuring Jake Gyllenhaal as an awkward teenager takes you on a ride of alternate realities and mysterious talking bunnies. It’s a total headcase of a movie — perfect for those looking for a mind-bending good time.
This is the End
This is the End is stupid — so stupid it’s genius. With a who’s-who cast including the likes of Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride, and more, this apocalyptic comedy is full of cheap laughs, one-liners, and vulgarity. It’s the perfect laugh-your-ass-off comedy while stoned.
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
In a word, hilarious. This comedy follows the misadventures of two stoners on a mission to score White Castle hamburgers. While simple in theory, they unfortunately run into many hurdles and hallucinations along the way.
Now You See Me
Magic tricks while stoned, yeah that’s the jam. But if you can’t make it to a live magic show, then Now You See Me is an excellent alternative. Follow this band of misfits as they use “magic” to get into (and out of) trouble with the law. It’s a visual and mind-bending two hours of stoner fun.
