How to Recycle Vaped Weed

420 Culture

We’ve all been there: that moment when you realize that you’ve completely cashed your stash and you desperately need to re-up, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re at the end of the road...or the bowl. If you’ve been vaping your weed, you may be able to recycle your smoke.

Follow the Science

The science behind the mythical everlasting bud depends on the temperature you’ve been vaping your nugs at. Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, one of our favorite cannabinoids, has a boiling point of 315 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the temperature when you start getting the good stuff. Weed itself begins to burn at 451 degrees Fahrenheit. If you set your vaporizer to a temperature between THC’s boiling point and marijuana’s combustion temperature, you’ll end up with a good score of Already Vaped Bud (AVB).

Hey, Hey Good Looking!

Good AVB resembles the color of tobacco more than marijuana, with its light brown color coming from toasting the weed instead of incinerating it. The general rule is the lighter the color, the more of the THC’s psychoactive properties it will retain. Vaping at temperatures just under marijuana’s combustion point will work as well, but the AVB won’t be as effective and will taste more like ash than anything else.

Where Do We Go from Here?

But how can you use your newly recycled stash? Usually when you make edibles, you need to heat the weed to decarboxylate it and activate the THC, but with AVB, the THC is already activated and can be easily added to whatever you like. If you feel adventurous, you can use it to make a batch of cannabutter, an infused coconut or olive oil or even some potent chocolate treats. You can also grind it into a fine powder and sprinkle it like a spice on whatever you like. Add it your afternoon tea or a morning cup of joe for a hazy jolt of caffeine or an evening glass of warm milk for the ultimate insomnia cure.

But I’m Not Hungry

If edibles aren’t your thing, you can put crushed AVB into a capsule for a slower acting but longer lasting high or you can just smoke it at a higher temperature to release the remaining THC. And if you’re planning on saving up your AVB for something epic, just store it in an airtight glass container until you’re ready to use it.
